The History of R.O.C.C.S.

In the Beginning

R.O.C.C.S., Research for Ovarian Cancer and Continued Survival, was founded by Amy (Chaiklin) Murrah, a young woman diagnosed with Stage III Micropapulary Serous Carcinoma (MPSC) Ovarian Cancer at the age of 29 after enduring years of chronic pain and suffering, including being denied surgery.

She turned her tragedy around by establishing R.O.C.C.S., a nonprofit tax-exempt charity, in hopes of helping educate other women.  Amy is a dedicated advocate, speaking to the media to increase public awareness about ovarian cancer and supported congressional efforts to increase funding for ovarian cancer research.  She uses humor and support of others to get her through the most difficult of times.

Although Amy works fulltime and teaches aerobics, she continues to dedicate much of her time to R.O.C.C.S. and ovarian cancer projects.  She hopes that her hard work pays off and sees the day an effective, non-invasive screening mechanism is developed.
